What is Pilates?
Pilates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. It is an exercise system designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, posture and wellbeing. Pilates exercises can be done on a mat or using special equipment, including the Reformer, the Cadillac and Wunda Chair.
What are the benefits of Pilates?
Regular Pilates practise can help improve posture, muscle strength, stability and mobility of joints, as well helping you relax and calm the mind
Why should I do Pilates at Pilates Esprit?
Pilates Esprit is a welcoming and inclusive studio with caring instructors that have over 25 years’ experience between them. We are client focussed and pride ourselves on high quality teaching in a warm environment.
How do I get starterd?
Contact us to discuss your goals and we can suggest a suitable class for your level. If you are new to Pilates we suggest an intro session to familiarise you with the basic principles of Pilates, go over any goals or limitations you may have and show you how the studio equipment works. If you are an experienced Pilates practitioner you can book your class using our online booking system.
How do I book online?
You can book your class via our secure MindBody online booking system.
What do I wear?
Wear something that allows you to move freely and stretch fully in. Classes are done barefoot or in socks and we have grip socks available to purchase at the studio. Avoid wearing belts, buckles or zippers. Long hair should be tied up.
What should I bring?
We provide all mats and equipment you’ll need during your class. We have water and snacks at the studio. If you have been referred by a physiotherapist please bring your notes and any exercise programmes with you.
What if I can't get to class every week?
Pilates does require commitment and dedication in order to really gain its benefits. However, we understand that there will be times when you cannot get to class. Our class pass is flexible and is valid for two months from purchase date.
What if I need to cancel a class or private session?
We understand that there may be an occasion where you need to cancel your class. To avoid being charged we ask that you give a minimum of 24 hours notice. This enables clients on the class waitlist to get a spot at the class. For further information on our cancellation policy please see our terms and conditions.
I would like to try barre but I've never done ballet?
Not a problem! We aim to make everyone feel comfortable in our studio. Your Pilates principles are the foundation for this standing class and we work you out from the feet up. It’s a challenging class but worthwhile for the sense of accomplishment at the end.
